Synopsis
The Labrador Retriever Club, Inc., established in 1931, endures as the proud protector and parent club for the Labrador Retriever in the United States. T.F.H. Publications, Inc., is pleased to join forces with this highly regarded breed club to produce The Official Book of the Labrador Retriever. As editor Dr. Bernard W. Ziessow states in his Acknowledgements: This book "represents the work, not of a single author, but many contributors, each sharing his or her expertise and years of experience in a given field of endeavour related to the Labrador Retriever breed ... Each has devoted many hours to assure that the book is informative, authoritative and interesting; a book that will not grow old or become obsolete with the passage of time".
Among the topics discussed are: the origin and history of the Labrador; the Labrador in Newfoundland; pets and great pets that became famous; breeding; famous American show dogs; judging the Labrador; influential kennels 1930-1970; obedience training and trials; American and English field trials; Hunting Tests; community-service Labradors; genetic studies and diseases; Canadian Labradors; veterinary care; the American Kennel Club; and more.
